It’s moments like these that would make me consider going back into fashion….like for real! How breathtaking is this Chanel S/S ‘12 campaign? I am speechless!
Sometimes you just know when it’s time to come back. You try to make time for the “important” things and never do. I’m guilty, so are you…and on that note..hello again. xo, Janell
One of my favorite beauty editors (who shall remain nameless) pulled me aside one day to tell me some semi-shocking news. She couldn’t hide it from me anymore…I have a faint mustache!
I gasped! I denied! I shook my head, I stamped my feet then pouted…I did NOT have a mustache!
She cautiously walked me over to a huge mirror with studio worthy lighting and said, “Look closer see right there?” pointing to the offensive hair. She shrugged, “Just get it waxed off when you get your eyebrows done..I promise you’ll notice a difference.”

The truth be told, I was nervous! Once I was about 13 years old, I did suspect I had a little fuzz on my upper lip. I scheduled my own appointment at Elizabeth Arden Red Door Salon & Spa (classy for a 13-year-old from Minnetonka right?) for a upper lip wax, paid an outrageous amount and left sans hair and skin above my lips! I looked completely crazy and vowed that a little fuzz was much better than red, irritated skin.

But the news that someone else thought I was hairy startled me. This had to be settled once and for all, I peered into my magnifying mirror to determine whether waxing was worth it.
I personally feel like it wasn’t that bad, believe me I had seen some SERIOUSLY furry lips. But as a budding beauty girl, I felt obligated to at least test it out.
There are so many options for hair removal from bleaching, to waxing, to tweezing and more. I headed to my hair removal sanctuary, Hibba NYC, in SoHo to have them help me with my *ahem* problem. Hibba was actually doing my eyebrows that day and suggested that I try sugaring as a gentle alternative. She said after a few treatments my hair would grow back finer so I wouldn’t have to worry so much.
A quick swipe of warm sugar and a quick tug later, I was hairless. I frantically grabbed the mirror to see the results…minor change, major results.
I texted the beauty editor to say “You were right, major difference.” She quickly replied, “Told you, the smallest changes make you feel better.”

Ladies, when it doubt wax it all off. Furry rabbits are cute, furry lips I learned…not so much.
Not to toot my own horn, but I have fabulous friends. They are smart, stylish and driven—-seriously what more can a girl ask for? So even though I tell them I love them daily, I thought giving them a little shout-out on Chipped Manicure would be better. Hopefully this will be a reoccurring feature…at least until I run out of friends ! After all, stylish people do love a good beauty product!

First up is one of my best friends, Justin Thompson. Justin and I were the first (yes, I let it be known) from our college to head up to NYC to make “it” happen (whatever that means nowadays.) Justin is an incredible designer, and I don’t just say that because he is my friend but because I really, truly mean it. His designs are well-made, well-thought and simply beautiful. I caught up with my dear friend a few weeks ago in Harlem to pick his brain about his favorite products.

Q: What is your style & grooming mantra?
My style is classic and chic. As for grooming, I love clean & neat…nails and feet have to be manicured at all times.
Q: What is stationed on your bathroom counter?
Nothing at all, I love my counter to be clear and clean. Now if you look in the medicine cabinet that is where I keep all of my goodies! One of my favorite products is Neutrogena Visibly Even Foaming Cleanser. I love it because it really cleans my skin without being to rough. I have been using it for quite awhile and can really tell a difference in the texture and overall look of my skin.
Q: What other products do you love?
Magic Shave is a wonderful hair removal product that does not require a razor. It eliminates all of my facial hair without having to worry about nasty razor bumps. For my hair, I am a huge fan of Carol’s Daughter’s Hair Milk line. All of their products especially the Hair Milk Curl Booster keep my curls soft and defined. The shampoo is also fantastic because it doesn’t strip your hair of its natural oils yet removes product build-up. For moisturizing, I use Carol’s Daughter Mimosa Hair Honey which works wonders when my hair is a little dry. It gives my hair a terrific shine without weighing it down.
Q: What is your favorite cheap thrill ? What is your most luxuriously splurge?
Cheap thrills are hard to come by, but I do love lemons. I use them with sugar for a fast and effective face or body scrub. For a splurge, I’d say the dermatologist. I think everyone should have one so they can really get to know their skin and it’s needs.
Q: How do you like to pamper yourself?
As I shared earlier, I love groomed nails and feet. I used to faithfully get a weekly manicure and pedicure but after I moved to NYC, I couldn’t find someone who met my standards so I started doing my own.
Q: If you could be anywhere right now, where would you be ?
Anywhere with family and friends having a good time. I adore a good dinner party!
Editor’s Note: Justin is a great chef and host, I always look forward to dinner with him!
Q: Favorite thing to do in NYC?
Hands down, eating! [Living in NYC] you can have food from all over the world at any time and I like that.
Q: Beauty trend you love ? Beauty trend you hate ?
As a designer, I am very excited about the return of the lady meaning not so much makeup, more soft and pretty. Nail art is the one thing I really do hate. I thought the days of long nails full of designs and offensive color were long gone. Oh well!
Sunday is my day to relax while browsing through all my favorite fashion & beauty blogs. I was checking out @evachen212 ‘s blog Whatever Eva Wants and came across these gorgeous Stella McCartney bottles. I literally stopped dead in my tracks…oh the glamour! I adore a great fragrance (Stella is one of my faves) but a beautiful bottle definitely sends me over the edge! Honestly, how pretty are they? I am now counting down the days until September to pop over to @Sephora to purchase all three.
here’s a first look at Stella McCartney’s limited edition Print Collection fragrances, out September at Sephora. absurdly covetable, no?
